The Ilford tournament returned on the 3rd April for the first time since the start of the pandemic, and was attended by two club members, Richard Spencer and Fiona Titcombe. Eight games were played over the course of the day, Richard playing in division B and Fiona in division C.
Both players started well, winning their first few games. Richard's good run continued, and his six wins (+412 spread) were enough to secure him the third place prize for his division. Well done Richard! Fiona finished on four wins (+75 spread), a decent effort for her second tournament.
Aside from the scrabble, a definite highlight of the event was the excellent cakes kindly provided by Stella Burley! The next Ilford tournament is planned for the 26 June.
Here is Richard receiving his third place prize.
Thanks to Fiona for this report.

Welcome to the website of East Berks Scrabble Club.
Do you enjoy a good game of Scrabble? Are you looking to learn a bit more about the game? Do you want to stop annoying friends and family with arguments over whether AARRGHH is actually a word? Do you yearn to play ZYZZYVAS across two triple-word squares?
East Berks Scrabble Club is always open to new members, and we’d love to have you along to try out one of our game nights.
You’ll find all you need to know on this site, but do feel free to contact us for a chat first.
We meet on Thursday evenings at 7:30, at St Sebastian’s Pavilion by the Tennis and Cricket Clubs), just off Nine Mile Ride in Crowthorne. Our club nights are very social. We have a few games of Scrabble, and coffee and biscuits and a chat. We also run league and knockout competitions within the club at different times of year (usually with small prizes), and we also have members who represent the club in teams in a local league or who go along to play individually at tournaments across the country.
There is no commitment to come every week, nor even for the whole evening (you can come later or finish earlier). Feel free to come along and see how you like it.
We are in easy driving distance of East Berkshire and North Hampshire. Most of our members come from Bracknell, Wokingham, Crowthorne, Sandhurst, Fleet and surrounding towns and villages.
...a little about our competitions
We run 3 competitions each year: a divisional league, an “All-play-all” league and a Handicap knockout, each with a small prize. We also have prizes for the most improved player in any quarter.
...and a little about external competitions
We have entered teams in the Southern Counties Scrabble League since its inception, and have successfully won the league a record 8 times. We have also competed in the Florida Insurance Cup again since its inception, winning the trophy 6 times.
